Lindsay & June Howard-Smith

Welcome to our site, enjoy your stay!

Our Website

We are a happily married couple  since 1967 and born in Australia.

June hailed from the country on the eastern coast and the small village of Burringbar, near Murwillumbah, on the far north coast not far from the Queensland border. At the age of 17 June left for the city of Sydney and a career as a very qualified dressmaker, and spent most of her time there until  she moved back to the area of her birth to help run our small business until her early retirement.

Lindsay, whilst born in Sydney stayed there until leaving school and working for a few years before  going overseas for 3 years working mostly in Africa and Algeria, returning home and completing 3 months National Service and then transferring to the Australian army. Having been in only 6 months I was  sent to Malaya on active service for 2 years, on return to Australia, still with the army I spent 6 months at Wacol , before being sent back to Malaya, again on active service, this was for another 2 1/2  years carrying out various missions, and traversing 6 countries surrounding Malaya, until my return to Australia and discharge.

On discharge I joined the Australian Customs Service , however after 2 years decided that public service was not my vocation, so moved into private enterprise and worked as a Customs Broker for a few years before taking over as CEO of 2 large customs agencies. It was in the early years after discharge that I met June and after a short time realising what a stunning looker she was, as well as a brilliant cook, and a person I wanted to keep hold of, so we  married.

In the interim of working and settling into a house we had 3 daughters, educated them, saw them married , and now enjoy our 6 grandchildren. The eldest daughter trained as beauty therapist but at the age of 40 went back to university and became an Early Intervention Childhood school teacher. She is married to a business man and has a boy and a girl. Our middle girl went to university to train as a nurse and mid course joined the Australian Nursing Corp. After 10 years she resigned her commission and worked as a private nurse, and was  running the RAP of 8/12 Medium regiment in Darwin. From there she moved with her husband, still in the Army to Wodonga in Victoria. He is an Army medic who has been to  most of the world hot spots and is a decorated veteran. They have a boy and a girl. Our youngest girl trained as a chef and topped the course 4 years in a row against stiff competition, and won Young Australian of the year in the Hospitality section. She is married to an Irishman and lived in Court McSherry Southern Ireland for 6 years. Since then they have immigrated to Australia to live at Sawtell in NSW. They have a girl and  a boy and she works as a reflexology  practitioner in her own business.

Having worked all our lives usually at 2 jobs each we decided to pull up stakes from Sydney and move up to Stokers Siding a very small beautiful village 10 km from Murwillumbah. We purchased the old railway station built in 1894 and converted it to a general store and post office, where we stayed until retirement and selling up in 1999.

On the sale of the shop we took time off and for 12 months we backpacked around the world, to Nepal for a month  where we hiked over 14 days to Everest base camp, spent a month on the Greek Islands, then 4 months all around mainland Europe. On to the UK for a month then to South America for 5 months. In that time we walked the Inca trail to Machu Pichu, then by buses to the other countries, before going to the USA for a week, NZ for a day then home. In all we traveled to over 56 countries. It was daunting at the time, but well worth it.

We are both kept busy and attend the gym on a daily basis to keep fit, we love meeting people usually about 10 t0 15 years  younger than us as we seem to enjoy their company more, as we think it also keeps us young as well. We are practicing nudists and have been for about 35 years. We have varied interests from reading to theater to gardening and photography. June is a well known dressmaker and loves cooking which she excels at.
